The choice to fit the Airmaster constant speed has been an outstanding success.
I operate regularly out of a short one way strip and it has increased my safety margins markedly. Take off distance is down by 25% to 30% and once off the ground the climb angle is outstanding. The climb mode at 5400rpm is perfect for a very positive climb rate compared to the standard prop, it will easily do 1000ft per minute. Descents in take-off mode allow for very steep approaches when required also.
Operation is simple and not unlike changing gears in a car, just turn the knob and wait for the smooth transition to the next gear. An unexpected surprise was the increase in cruise speed, up by about six knots indicated.
The Airmaster prop has transformed an already good performing aircraft into a great all-rounder. I now have the high cruise speed combined with excellent short field ability.
